Comparison of geometry-based Doppler Centroid Estimators in Bistatic Airborne SAR

In SAR processing, high azimuth resolution is achieved by means of the use of a precise value of the bistatic Doppler centroid. It is totally clear that using accurate processing parameters is essential for obtaining precisely focused images. With this purpose, several estimation techniques have been proposed so far, being possible to divide them in two principal groups: those ones which are based on signal parameters and those ones which are based on geometrical parameters. In this paper, two geometry-based Doppler centroid estimators are compared with respect to bistatic SAR data, the Radon Transform Estimator (RTE) and the Hough Transform Estimator (HTE). The analysis was performed on a two dimensional field of sampled range-compressed data. The comparison was carried out considering the use of smaller window sizes for the analysis. This paper will show the similarities and differences of both estimators with respect to the obtained results, and furthermore, for which kind of scenes is worth using each of them.
