Spaceborne parasitic Interferometric SAR (InSAR) system can remarkably improve the interferometric SAR performance. Frequency synchronization is a key problem of such systems because the transmitters and receivers are mounted on separate platforms. A novel frequency model including the frequency errors of the Ultra Stable Oscillator (USO) is presented at the beginning of the paper. The performance of the range and azimuth compression with the frequency synchronization error is analyzed in detail. The error transfer model from the frequency synchronization error to the height accuracy is established and the stability requirement of the USO in parasitic InSAR application is pointed out. The analysis, which is proved by simulations, offers the principle basis of correct frequency synchronization requirements for parasitic InSAR system design.
