Inhalt:
The coexistence of UMTS FDD with OFDM-based systems in 2.5 GHz frequency band and inter-system interference reduction schemes are investigated and proposed in this paper. As the investigated OFDM system, OFDM-256 WiMAX TDD based on IEEE 802.16 standard is chosen. During simulations, network parameters are mainly taken from the standards and only macro cells are considered. Collocated base station placement, where two base stations from different systems are mounted on the same tower, and base station to base station interference are found to be the most prominent problem. OFDM property of WiMAX can be exploited to reduce interference to the UMTS system by employing subchannelization, where WiMAX transmitters are proposed to turn off several subcarriers located on the edge band closest to the UMTS band. Additionaly, information exchange between UMTS and WiMAX networks is proposed, which is shown to contribute significant interference reduction.
