An integrated transmission line common mode and differential mode EMI filter was proposed previously to restrict EMI noise inside integrated power electronics modules (IPEMs). This filter uses skin and proximity effects of different paralleled conductors to provide different paths for low frequency power current and high frequency noise. To study the relationship between the filter performance and its physical dimensions and material properties, an electromagnetic model of the filter is necessary. This paper proposes a modeling method based on multi-conductor lossy transmission line theory, which greatly simplifies the analysis of this complicated structure. The calculated and measured transfer gains of the constructed filter prototype are compared. It is shown that multiple resonant frequencies can be well predicted, even at high frequencies. Some modeling errors exist because of the unknown parameters, such as the parasitic interconnection inductance of the measurement setup, and the electromagnetic properties of the material used.
