Inhalt:
Speech-to-speech translation (SST) is a key issue to overcome the language barrier globally and especially in Europe. Embedded in mobile devices and integrated in the world wide communication systems SST systems could be used beneficially for international oral communication. Still SST is a immature technology because the performance of the involved technologies - spoken language translation, speech recognition and speech synthesis – have to be improved substantially. Currently in Europe the EC funded project TC-STAR and in USA the DARPA funded project GALE are pushing the SST technology handling for unconstrained domains as Broadcast News, Parliamentary Speeches and general meetings.
