We propose a procedure to optimize successively the dispersion map of a 10 Gb/s WDM NRZ system by adjusting the residual dispersion per span, the net residual dispersion, and pre-compensation. The method is based on the evaluation of nonlinear phase shifts and accumulated dispersion along the transmission line.
