Despite Induction heating for cooking applications has been in the market for long time, just recently it has become popular. This is due because this technology is very promising in term of energy efficiency compare the standard solutions (Gas and electric stoves). The core of such platform is the inverter, which has the duty to generate a high frequency current in order to drive the resonant thank of the inverter and the load (the pan). The Insulated Gate transistors (IGBT) utilized in the inverter are ones of the most important components. In these applications the performances of such component become critical in respect energy efficiency. A big part of the losses of the inverter for Induction cooking are in the IGBTs. That’s why in the last years in the market have been released several devices tailored for this applications. In this paper new IH Field stop II family, which is tailored to induction heating and microwave application, will be presented. Experimental results for resonant half bridge and the quasi-resonant single ended inverter will be shown in real applications with switching frequency up to 65 kHz.
