Inhalt:
The main challenges faced by designers of automotive traction inverters are cost, size and weight reduction. This paper presents a practical implementation of dual-sided cooling for Hybrid and Electric Vehicle (HEV and EV) main traction inverters that addresses all three challenges simultaneously. Thermal simulations were used to optimize the system. The performance was verified by measurements on an automotive inverter system with dual side cooled IGBT modules. The advantages of dual-sided cooling are demonstrated in this paper.
