The objective of this paper is to describe the utilization and validation of a simulation model which has been developed for the design of a hybrid system used for electrical and thermal power generation. The system consists of a combined heat and power plant and a photovoltaic array with an additional lithium-ion battery for electrical energy storage. The installed power generation system reveals the opportunity to enable an almost independent and climate-friendly power supply of a residential neighborhood.
