Recently, the deployment of PV sources has increased significantly. The large number of PV sources and the variation in their production introduce major challenges for utilities operators. In this paper, a method is proposed to control PV sources combined with batteries to serve as voltage source inverters (VSIs). During various operation modes, these VSIs respond autonomously to disturbances in the power system such that reliable operation, fast response and flexible design are achieved. The VSIs are operated to track the maximum power point of the PV modules all the time. On the other hand, zero current is drawn/supplied from/to the batteries during normal operation and they are used only to stabilize power systems after major disturbances. According, the batteries life-span could be extended and the reliable operation of the power systems is secures. The VSI operates using local measurement only without the need for inter-controllers communication. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulation studies.
