In this work, we provide the methodology to evaluate the performance of visible light communication (VLC) hotspot networks in the context of data downloading on the move by using throughput-distance relationship model. At first, throughputdistance relationship model has been derived analytically by taking into account the optical design parameters such as field-ofview (FOV) of the receiver, semi-angle of transmitter, background noise related parameters such as ambient and thermal noise. Mobility related parameters such as velocity of the user is also taken into account in performance analysis. Secondly, analytical throughput-distance model is approximated to throughput distance model such as polynomial throughput-distance model. Simulations are also performed to evaluate the performance of such hotspot network in the context of data download on move scenario. Performance of VLC hotspot networks is also quantified in terms of received file size. Simulation results reveal that there is a large impact of background noise on the performance of VLC hotspots. As expected, in indoor and outdoor environments VLC hotspot performs better at night than at day time due to the prominent day light solar radiation presence in the outdoor environment.
