Mobile infrastructure-less networks have gained more importance as the networking technology is shifting from a traditional centralized model to a decentralized operating model. But the management of the wireless interference caused by multiple mobile nodes is still an open research question, and is frequently identified as a fundamental topic in ad hoc networks research. In this work we characterize the wireless interference of a mobile ad hoc network, where the nodes move according to the Random Waypoint model. It is assumed a circular sensing region centered in a fixed node located in the center of the mobility scenario. The main contribution of the paper is the characterization of the expectation of the aggregate signal (interference) received by the fixed node by the mobile transmitters located outside the sensing region. The characterization of the interference accounts with the stochastic nature of the path loss due to the mobility of the nodes. Some of the assumptions used in the formal deduction were validated through simulation. Finally, several simulation results are compared with the expected aggregate interference computed through the proposed model, which confirms its effectiveness.
