In this paper, the small signal output impedance of a synchronous buck converter is modeled using Intersil’s R4(exp TM) modulator. The describing function approach is employed in deriving the transfer function of the modulator. Good matching of the output impedance in s-domain is shown between the analytical model and the simulation results obtained from SIMPLIS. Design considerations and time-domain simulation results are also provided.
