This paper presents a new Finite Control Set Model Predictive Control (FCS-MPC) scheme with fixed switching frequency that is implemented in a Neutral Pointed Clamping (NPC) converter. The proposed control algorithm consists in setting a fixed switching frequency and dividing it in smaller evaluation steps. The proposed method fixes the switching frequency using commutation limitations in the structure of the FCS-MPC without weighting factors in the cost function. Experimental results show that the proposed method is practicable and has comparable performance both in transient and steady state with respect to the standard solution. It should be highlighted that this new method has a fixed frequency and a better loss distribution than the standard FCS-MPC for the NPC converter.
