This paper presents the potential of integrating an On Chip Temperature Sensor on an IGBT compared to the classical use of an NTC. A possible implementation of the sensor, using a temperature diode, is described. Simulation and measurement results of the temperature diode sensor are discussed. Finally a new concept for signal acquisition is presented. It relies on a digital gate driver integrating an ADC on the high voltage side. System accuracy is discussed based on experimental results.
