The paper analyses the power quality of non-linear loads from residential and educational buildings. Analysis of voltage and current harmonics for the representative consumers (fluorescent lamps, PC, LCD monitor), operating in an isolated mode, was performed by modelling and simulation using PSCAD-EMTDC program. Validation of simulations was done by laboratory measurements, using power quality analyser CA 8334B. To assess the cumulative effect (harmonics, unbalance, power factor) produced by the analysed consumers, measurements in the power substation were performed, using power quality analyser. The measurements demonstrate the power factor improving, when using low power capacitive loads, balanced on phases.
