Thyristors with Full-Wave Blocking Capability for Industrial Applications

We introduce the new 8.5 kV Phase Control Thyristor (PCT) in package with 100 mm pole piece for industrial applications. As the significantly lower ON-state voltage drop VT and leakage current is achieved up to higher operation temperature with the original blocking capability, its overall performance is greatly enhanced. The blocking capability and its stability of the new PCT was studied up to Tj = 145 °C in various operation conditions. It shows that the new PCT provides the forward and reverse blocking capability without compromising the amplitude of half sine wave up to 8 kV at 115 °C. This performance is equivalent to the forward and reverse blocking capability of VRWM = 0.67xVRRM with superimposed surge voltage up to VRRM = 8.5 kV at 125 °C, both with safety margin of at least 10 °C.
