Inhalt:
To address the growing need for accurate current measurements in high voltage and magnetic field environments, L2W Energy has developed a unique optical power isolator (OPI). The device receives and converts laser light delivered over optical fiber which is 100 % immune to external electromagnetic noise. The electrical power delivered by the OPI is suitable for most electronic sensors as well as data links that provide high speed information from the sensor. Shunt-based current sensing at high voltages has gained presence in utility power applications where it can measure both DC and AC currents. Contrary to conventional inductive current sensing, OPI-enabled sensors also detect high frequency harmonics and are not dependent on the line being active, critical as renewable energy sources become more prevalent. The OPI technology is now poised to enable completely electrically- isolated, active powering of gate drives in high voltage environments.
