Inhalt:
The contribution evaluates a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) designed as power conditioning unit for space applications. The results of the study show that the 3-leg interleaved buck converter and the proposed operation mode offer a superior solution in order to meet the specific demands of power electronics in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. By implementing gallium nitride power transistors ideal heat dissipation and a high power-to-weight ratio of 10 kW/kg can be achieved. Furthermore a high efficiency of more than 97.5 % and a continuous power point optimization of the solar array lead to a lower overall system weight.
