The paper presents the very promising buck-buck single stage topology for LED lighting applications. The highly efficient ballast convinces with its sim-plicity in structure and control. It provides a ripple-free LED-current, while performing an inherent PFC action at the input. The in-depth investigation and optimization is validated by a practical setup, by building a ballast for an 8 W LED-retrofit lamp, which replaces a 75 W incandescent lamp.
