Compared to common centralized power control schemes for wind farms, decentralized methods have lower cost and do not rely on fast communication. Therefore, in this paper a decentralized voltage and power factor control method for wind farms is presented. Instead of measurements at the point of common coupling (PCC), a simplified model of internal structure of wind farm is used to estimate PCC voltage and internal reactive power losses of the wind farm. These estimated parameters are employed to control the PCC voltage and wind farm power factor at PCC without centralized wind farm controller, communication infrastructure and measurement sensors at PCC. The functionality of the proposed control methods is validated by simulation using models developed by the authors in Matlab/Simulink environment.
