A study of inductor models applicable in a DC/DC converter is presented. The main focus is to determine the optimum ripple current with respect to given boundary conditions, e.g. a saturation flux density both with and without magnetic bias. It becomes clear that a specific saturation flux densities requires a particular ripple current. It is a guideline for determination of optimum ripple currents depending on different inductor designs.
