Initially, this paper shortly introduces Reverse Conducting IGBT with Diode Control (RCDC). Then measurements of the short-circuit behavior of 6.5 kV high power RCDC modules are presented. Differences between short circuit (SC) types I to IV are investigated for RCDC modules and compared with conventional IGBT. The results are discussed concerning an optimized gate drive pulse pattern for RCDC modules.
