Power density of a traditional DC/DC converter is limited by bulky magnetic components. Inductor/transformer size can be reduced by increasing the switching frequency, but this reduces converter efficiency. It is possible to eliminate or to reduce size of magnetics with switched capacitor converter topology. Instead of an inductor, a “flying capacitor” transfers the energy from input to output. Another hybrid converter using dual interleaved inductor allows more effective switch utilization, thus leading to elevate power conversion efficiency. Switch capacitor converter works with fixed ratio offering high efficiency conversion. To realize high step-down converter, with desired output voltage level, additional buck converter is combined with switch capacitor converter. The same power switches are used for the switch capacitor- and buck-converter. Thus, the hybrid converter offer higher power efficiency and smaller size factor when compare with traditional buck converter.
