The aim of this research is to explore whether serum metabolite signatures are associated with specific types and locations of gastrointestinal (GI) tract cancers. Serum metabolites of human subjects (n=180) diagnosed with GI cancers at 7 locations and healthy controls (n=105) were profiled using GC-TOFMS and UPLC-QTOF platforms. Multiple differential metabolites associated with cancer types and locations were identified using a new common signatures identification strategy. Our findings underscore the potential of 10 metabolite signatures, especially taurine and hypotaurine, as common blood biomarkers capable of differentiating GI tract cancer types and locations.
