In this paper a new strategy regarding online compensation of periodic rotor position errors due to non-idealities of resolver in 3-phase interior permanent-magnet synchronous machine intended for propulsion of electric vehicle is introduced. In general, an innovative V/f control method is conducted on PMSM in advance of resolver calibration to decouple interactions between different sensor errors. Then a self-tuning algorithm based on filtered-x-least-mean-square adaptive filter is implemented to adjust the rotor position measurement until the optimal parameters for error compensation are found and stored. The proposed algorithms are validated by experimental results and show significant efficiency in suppressing the low-order harmonics of rotor position errors.
