Flexible and General Strategy of Space Vector Modulation for Multilevel Converters

In this paper, a flexible strategy to easily achieve Space Vector Modulation (SVM) in Multilevel Converters is presented. Independent of the considered number of levels, this strategy is mainly based on comprehensive sector-based relations, within the stationary reference frame, extended to every Multilevel topology to decompose a N-Level space vector into a traditional 2-Level configuration. For this work the Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is used to enhance the strategy scalability. Furthermore, the presented strategy is implemented and evaluated on a low-cost FPGA.
