Active ripple reduction circuits (ARRCs) used as part of the dc-bus within single-phase grid tied inverters insert additional dynamics into these systems that should be considered to guarantee stability. The overall dynamic behavior also defines the ripple reduction performance. Thus, this work provides a detailed and precise model of ARRCs. The model estimates the input impedance of the system and this is used here as a criterion to tune the controller. Moving average filters included in the control strategy are considered in an augmented state space model that includes a delay and is able to appropriately capture the system dynamics. Simulation results reveal a stable behavior and near five times reduction of the voltage ripple.
