Edge straight crack is a technical obstacle for iron and steel enterprises to use slabs to produce microalloyed high strength steel and ultra-low carbon steel. The deformation and temperature of slab corner are important factors for the formation of edge straight crack defects in hot rolled coil. Based on the study of the formation mechanism of straight edge crack, the chamfered mold technology is proposed to solve the straight edge crack. On the basis of laboratory research and industrial production verification, compared with other solutions, the results show that the chamfering mold technology can not only control the angular transverse crack of slab, but also greatly reduce the incidence of straight edge crack of ultra-low carbon steel hot rolled plate, so it can bring great economic benefits to iron and steel enterprises.
