Structure Strength Calculation and Analysis for the Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull

As a new type vessel of sea transport, Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH) has a prospect of wide applications in the military and civilian aspects. In this paper, The global finite element model of a SWATH is built with analysis software MSC.PATRAN. Taking a SWATH as an example, the yielding strength is assessed based on the provisions in the Guidelines of Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull Craft (2005). The stress distribution was summarized under different load cases. According to the results, some suggestions to improve the hull type are given which provided theoretical support for a hull design.
