The paper focuses on the online 3-dimensional packing algorithm in intelligent warehouse, where cuboid boxes have different specifications and future boxes are unknown. The algorithm describes the rest space of the pallet with a model of corner points, searches feasible locations for each coming box and selects an optimal one to improve space usage, which affects logistical transportation efficiency. For the adaptability in real scenario, options such as vertical occlusion, gap, and buffer area are considered. Statistical experiments are carried out to explore the influence of several heuristic strategies and the buffer size on the algorithm. The experiments show that the effect of each strategy varies from the distributions of box specifications and there is saturation as the buffer size increasing.
