With the development of social economy and the continuous expansion of the scale of power grid, the disadvantages of traditional power grid increasingly appear. The vulnerability of traditional power grid has been exposed after several large-scale power outages occurred in the world. Therefore, the use of renewable energy supply has aroused people's attention. As a major premise of new energy industry, smart grid brings new possibilities for grid connection mode of renewable energy power generation. In the context of increasingly high carbon emission requirements, it is of great significance for the whole grid structure and environment whether the renewable energy power generation can work in the smart grid. Therefore, this paper analyzes the characteristics of grid connection of renewable energy generation, and introduces the advantages and disadvantages of integrating renewable energy generation into traditional power grid. Then the paper analyzes the situation and nature of smart grid, and according to the nature and development trend of smart grid, it also analyzes the advantages of integrating renewable energy into smart grid. The research in this paper lays a foundation for how to connect renewable energy generation to the power grid reasonably and effectively in the future, which is of great significance to the sustainable development of energy demand.
