The 7th Generation “X Series” Intelligent Power Module and Its Control IC Technology

This paper introduces the 7th-gen X series Intelligent Power Module(X-IPM) and its control IC tech-nology. Fuji Electric has developed the X-IPM for industrial applications, which achieves further minia-turization and performance improvement of power conversion systems by adopting the newly developed power chip and control IC [1]. The newly developed control IC(X-Series IC) integrates various unique functions. For instance, the X-IPM comes with the industry’s first warning output function and the tem-perature-based power dissipation reduction function [1]. Furthermore, the accuracy of the IGBT chip overheat protection built into the X-IPM has also been improved in order to achieve higher temperature operation. By applying these technologies, the X-IPM will contribute to improving the performance of power conversion systems.
