This paper describes a full FPGA implemented HiL-simulation model of a medium-voltage STATCOM converter based on the MMC topology also being capable of simulating the passive rectifier behavior. The modelling approach is described including the required simplifications. Advantages to a MATLAB/Simulink based workflow are discussed and implementation details for the NI PXI system and LabVIEW are given. Measurement results demonstrates the accuracy of the derived model.
