Power Electronics for a Future Sustainable Society

Fifty years after “The Limits to Growth” the famous report from the Club of Rome, we are now forced to recognize “the dimensions of our finite planet” in terms of CO2 emissions. In this paper, we will explore the critical boundary in the relationship between economic growth and CO2 emissions by introducing simple model, and recognize the gap between the net zero emission scenario and the current situation. We will then discuss the role that power electronics technology development should play in bridging this gap.
