Infineon’s IGBT package evolution with regard to the development of 1500 V solar string inverters

This paper summarizes the evolution of Infineon’s power module packages from EasyPACKTM 2B, EasyPACK(TM) 3B to EasyPACK(TM) 4B modules, used in 1500 V solar string inverters to achieve the highest power ratings. In particular the Easy- PACK(TM) 4B, a brand-new package has been proven to be the best-fit solution for the industry’s latest 320 kW 1500 V solar string inverter. The main trend in solar inverters is to reach higher power ratings. The EasyPACK(TM) 4B power module package has been developed based on this trend. This paper, as a summary of Infineon’s package portfolios used in solar string inverters, describes the characteristics of various IGBT packages that are key factors for optimal inverter solutions. Most importantly, this paper illustrates the new Infineon package for EasyPACK(TM) 4B from both the design and application perspective.
