High efficiency and high power density are the two most important trend for high performance Switching-mode AC/DC converter system. Sillicon Carbide (SiC) device which has extremely small reverse-recovery loss makes the simplest bridgeless topology totem-pole Power Factor Correction (PFC) a preferred solution. In this paper, the key technology and design of Continuous Current Mode (CCM) and Critical Current Mode (CRM) Totem-pole PFC are reviewed. The system loss calculation method based on device Double Pulse Test is proposed, the loss distribution and volume of the main components are compared. Based on the comparison, the CRM Totem-pole PFC is the preferred choice to achieve both high efficiencyand power density at a higher cost.
