This paper describes a three-phase inverter which can extend the output voltage range. The inverter output voltage can be controlled even in the extended output range. Though the output range of the voltage source inverter is up to √3/2 times the power supply voltage, the inverter mentioned here can extend the output voltage range with fewer switch operating number. As for the inverter which expands the output voltage range with reduced switch operation number, the output voltage can not be controlled in the output extended area, but the output voltage control is made possible by improving switch control. The proposed method is also effective for noise regulation countermeasures because it can suppress the switching noise peak while reducing the number of switch operations.
