The emergence of the energy crisis leads electric vehicles into people's sight, providing a way to improve the environment and energy problems. With the support and efforts of local governments and enterprises, electric cars are now developing rapidly. However, in recent years, the increasingly mature electric vehicle technology has appeared a bottleneck - battery. The performance of electric vehicles largely depends on the properties of batteries, the high energy density and long cycle life. The lithium-ion battery can meet these requirements. It also has no memory effect and other characteristics, so researchers pay more attention to it. However, in the pursuit of the high energy lithium-ion battery, electrode and electrolyte materials limit the further improvement of the battery performances. In the researches, it was found that nanomaterials can improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries in different aspects, so they are gradually applied in lithium-ion batteries of electric vehicles. This paper introduces several nanomaterials used in different electrodes and electrolytes, compares their advantages and disadvantages, and puts forward the prospect of developing nanomaterials in lithium-ion batteries in the future.
