The fault location technology of distribution network is of great significance to reduce the outage time and frequency of power system and improve the reliability of power supply. The widespread application of synchronous phase measurement technology lays the foundation for the distribution network to achieve fault location. In this paper, using the electrical phase volume information obtained from PMU measurements configured only at the end of distribution lines, we propose a fast and accurate fault location algorithm based on the dichotomous search method. The fault current component at the fault point is calculated from the measured current before and after the fault at each PMU configuration node, and the fault point is searched based on the dichotomous algorithm for each line in turn, and the positive sequence voltage at each PMU configuration node is calculated based on the derivative matrix and the positive sequence component of the fault current formed during the search process, and the actual fault point is determined by the minimum deviation between measured value and calculated value. The proposed algorithm can effectively and accurately determine the exact location of the fault under the influence of noise and transition resistance, as verified by Matlab /Simulink simulation of a typical distribution network with IEEE34 nodes.
