This paper is devoted to the developing of the photovoltaic solar converter that is applicable for ac and dc systems. Such type of converter may speed up transition from the conventional ac system to the dc system or to the hybrid ac-dc system. The power electronics converter was developed and tested with both types of grids and with using a real photovoltaic string, which are placed at Near Zero Energy Building (NZEB) test site. The solar converter is based on the buck-boost inverter with unfolding circuit topology with interleaved buck-boost cells for a higher performance. The proportional-resonant and repetitive components of regulator keep the grid current stable with good THD value in a case of ac mode, meanwhile a dc mode is accompanied by the proportional-integral regulator to minimize static error. Experimental results of the universal solar converter for dc and ac modes are presented. Developed solar converter is considered as a TRL6 prototype.
