This paper describes the errors that occur when calculating the inductance, the magnetic flux density and the core losses of magnetic components, if the magnetic anisotropy of the soft magnetic materials, such as silicon electric sheet, is not considered. The magnetic anisotropy not only has an influence on the magnetic permeability and the hysteresis losses, but also on the skin effect of the classical eddy current losses. For this purpose, an analytical method was developed to take these effects into account. This calculates much faster than a finite element simulation, so this can be advantageous for optimization algorithms. In order to prove the accuracy of the new method, the method was compared with the results from finite element method (FEM).
