Bidirectional On-Board Chargers (OBC) will become a major component in a secure charging infrastructure. The bidirectionality is required for V2X solutions to be able to feed the energy from the high-voltage car battery back into the grid. Silicon carbide (SiC) technology plays a decisive role in the implementation of bidirectional chargers. This article introduces a new power module concept that integrates up to six SiC MOSFETs suitable for 400V and 800V voltages and various topologies. The module offers very high power-density enabled by the integration of multiple newest generation SiC MOSFETs in a low Rth housing.
