Inhalt:
In this work, the design and development of a bi-directional power semiconductor module used in a low voltage DC hybrid circuit breaker (HCB) are presented. The module can conduct and turn off an average of 2.6 kA with a peak of 3.6 kA for a maximum of 400 mus. Previously characterized power IGBT and silicon diode bare dies are attached on two separate substrates which are finally connected to each other in sandwich mode to obtain the smallest footprint with the highest current density and smallest current commutation loop inductance. This allows for the realization of the most compact, cost-effective, and reliable HCB.
