Industrial power supply applications require higher efficiency over a wide range of load conditions as energy labeling regulations demand higher efficiency. In these applications, the AC-DC power factor correction (PFC) stage implemented with a bridgeless totem pole (TP) topology using IGBTs in combination with SiC diodes enables a simple, cost-effective design and a highly efficient solution. In this paper, the cost and efficiency benefits of a bridgeless TP-PFC topology using 650 V CoolSiC(TM) hybrid discrete IGBT are evaluated. The results show that a bridgeless TP-PFC with CoolSiC(TM) Hybrid Discrete and two rectifier diodes offers the best price-performance ratio compared to the conventional interleaved boost topology or the TP-PFC with SiC MOSFET and synchronous rectification. Furthermore, experimental results demonstrate that the bridgeless TP-PFC topology followed by a dual-phase LLC meets the 80 PLUS Titanium Grade.
