Integrating 5G and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) has gained significant attention from academia and industry as a promising solution for various industrial applications. This article investigates the 5G-TSN integration on the basis of a commercially available industrial product, the Robo Operator (registered trademark). This research delves into the essential system requirements for the operation of the Robo Operator and discusses the system’s overall architecture, highlighting the key components and their interactions. Furthermore, the article examines the integration specifics of 5G and TSN, considering the guidelines provided by the 3GPP specification and the TSN standards set by the IEEE. Finally, the study analyzes the technical details of integrating these two technologies. We present simulation results demonstrating that integrating 5G-TSN yields improved latency and Packet Delay Variation (PDV) for a general industrial manufacturing use case, compared to transmitting data without integration.
