In transformers with ”E” and ”U” shaped cores, a significant share of the winding sections is not enclosed by the core, but in the winding loss calculation it is considered that the complete winding is enclosed. This could cause overestimated losses up to more than 50%. To avoid such a large error, this paper presents a fast analytical model for calculating the overall winding losses by means of a triple 2D concept. The turn-wise spatial RMS value of the magnetic field is used for calculating the HF-losses. The proposed model is numerically validated to be more accurate than other state-of-the-art methods that are based on the mirror image method or the squared field derivative model.
