High power multi-level converters have been in discussion for several years. The advancement of semiconductor power devices and the computation power of microcontrollers made it possible to implement complex topologies running at high frequencies. This paper highlights the digital control implementation of dual channel, configurable 10kW maximum power point tracking (MPPT) converter based on a threelevel topology working in buck mode to target renewable energy storage applications using a single 32- bit ARM microcontroller. The converter has two independent channels with an input voltage ranging from 450 to 850V DC connected to a common fixed 400V DC output for feeding an inverter. The power density of the system developed is 75W/inch3 and the peak power conversion efficiency of the system is above 99%. For both channels MPPT routine, fly capacitor balancing, output voltage regulation, current sharing and protections are managed by the microcontroller.
