This paper investigates the impact of system characteristics on power semiconductor switch performance during short-circuit events. It demonstrates that slower turn-on caused by higher stray inductance (LCC), drain current, and DC-link voltage (VDC) results in longer required short-circuit withstand time (tscwt). The paper also highlights the influence of asymmetric module design on short circuit events. The results are based on 2nd generation of Bosch SiC MOSFETs in power module generation 6 (PM6). Understanding these effects is crucial for short circuit robustness and controllability of the system.
