The most crucial challenge for EV lies in its limited range and this consequently leads to larger energy storage system along with higher DC link voltage. As is evident in market demand, 800V 11KW and 22kW On Board Charger (OBC) becomes main stream. And another noticeable trend is to adopt dc link voltage regulation circuit block in order to compensate a transient dc link voltage drop due to excessive power consumption from EV drive train. OBC is composed of PFC circuit, HV-HV converter and HV-LV converter that enables charging low-voltage battery. And non-isolated HV Buck-Boost voltage regulator circuit is used to stabilize EV dc-link voltage. As is wellknown, 1200V or 650V SiC MOSFET device is the most critical component in designing power converters for (H)EV. In this paper, onsemi Automotive Power Module APM16 and APM32 solution will be introduced to explain how they can be utilized in building State-of-Art power converters ensuring outstanding electrical and thermal performance as well as big advantage in space-effective design.
